La Garrotxa is an area of exceptional beauty containing 40 volcanic cones, beech, oak and holm oak forest. It's a protected area including the natural Park of the Volcanic area of la Garrotxa. And allso the PEIN sites of Alta Garrotxa and parts of Collsacabra and Sta. Magdalena. A land rich in traditions and history, whith some romanesque gems, medieval villages and deep-routed popular festivals.

The "Parc natural de la Zona volcānica de la Garrotxa" is the best example of a volcanic landscape of the Iberian Peninsula and one of the most fascinating of Europe. Covering more than a 12.000 hectares belonging to 11 different communities there are 38 volcanic craters and other geological, biological and cultural interesting elements.

The romanesque heritage is scattered all over the geography of la Garrotxa. Of the 21 medieval villages and towns in the region, we wouldlike to specially mention the country town of Besalu and the fortified village of Sta Pau.
Alta (high) Garrotxa, at the food of the Pirenees, features a great number of romanesque little church along the way to Santiago
